How I Started Cutting Without Killing Myself

Updated: Dec 18, 2025

My fitness journey started a long time ago. I took this picture thinking it would be my "before" picture. To accomplish the "after" part, I was running, doing random weightlifitng workouts, and eating lots of red meat (double-burgers). It's more protein right? I didn't know what a calorie was.

It would take me years to understand what to do in the gym and how to get stronger and leaner at the same time.

It's 2012, I've tried everything I can possibly think of. I saw a trainer that looked how I wanted to and decided to hire him. The program ended up being 6 days a week and my diet wasn't even discussed! I did not last long.

Then a friend of mine who had a ridiculous physique, told me his trainer had the minimalist routine I was looking for. These pictures were taken for his program, Ripped Body.

I trained with online coach, Andy Morgan (Ripped Body), for 3 months. And in that time I learned how to do more with less. Andy simplified my diet and helped me grasp the basics, like calories. For the first time in my life I was starting to see results.

Years later I started to take things a little more seriously and in return my strength numbers increased along with a six-pack. I remember trying on this suit and not believing how many inches I’d lost.

At last, I finally figured out how to work out, eat the right foods, and still enjoy things like pizza while maintaining my abs, without fear of losing them. Even if I go a little overboard with my snacking, which happens from time to time, I can easily bounce back to where I was.

Since then I’ve figured out how maintain my strength with the least amount of effort and time in the gym. I've been logging my workout journey since 2012, and as you can see in the graph below, my average workouts per year really haven't been that many.

Somehow I've been able to get to the leanest and strongest version of myself at 44 years old. All while working out less than half the year.

After 5 years of training together and seeing consistent progress, we wanted to share our favorite minimalist routine that has fit so seamlessly into our lives. One that feels lazy and so simple it’s stupid; hence, Lazy Gains Club was born.

We did the math and on average we worked out 1 and a half times a week in 2024.

If we can get abs on that schedule then so can you!

Find out how simple it really is and join Lazy Gains Club today!
